Oubas Knitwear is based in a workshop within an old house on a Woodland estate in the English Lake District. We're surrounded by trees and wildlife, as well as other creative artists and businesses, and a sustainably managed woodlands. Designer and owner Kate Wilson founded the brand in the autumn of 2012, from a desire to design and make quality products, here in Britain.
The studio here is where she designs and produces most of the pieces. Some of the range is produced for us in Scottish knitwear mills, but we are close to these and work to ensure our standards of quality. We work in the studio on old Italian and Japanese made machines to knit and manufacture the pieces, linking and hand finishing before finally pressing and labelling. You can see a little bit of the process in our 'film'.
Inspiration is taken from the moods and light in the changing landscapes around, from Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics, and from textures and tones found in the everyday. For further information see 'values'.
