Oubas Knitwear began in 2012; I trained in knitwear at Winchester School of Art, and began the label fairly soon after working in design jobs. I wanted to continue using the traditional skills I'd learnt and to develop a knitwear label to support the artisan British industry.
Over the past eight years we have made our pieces in our Cumbrian studio using hand operated machinery, as well as in collaboration with various UK mills.
This year in 2021 we have moved our workshop into a new space in Ulverston, Cumbria - the town where our label began. I have undertaken further training in programming and running state-of-the-art knitting machines, so we can develop our own pieces close to home and bring creativity under one roof.
This also means that we can produce our pieces in small batches, often making to order so each piece is made carefully and with consideration.
Later this year we will open this to you all, with a retail/showroom too and the ability to show you how our knitwear is made. We are proud to be making clothing in our home town.
Each piece made by OUBAS is knit by us here in our studio. Designing each piece stitch by stitch, creatively using technology to bring together traditional craftsmanship with innovation.
Once the pieces are knitted, the panels are then pressed with steam, washed, pressed again and linked together by hand. We wrap and pack each order ourselves, with it leaving our studio doors straight to you.
